A parent-led tool designed to answer three practical questions about a child's learning.
Its central purpose is to track real mastery as a prerequisite for future learning. Completing an activity or answering correctly once would not automatically mark a skill mastered. The parent records what the child did, how much help they needed, and whether they could do it again on another day or with different materials. The tool uses that evidence to suggest practice, a brief review, or the next skill. If a child struggles, it checks for a missing earlier skill before simply repeating the current lesson. Parents can see and correct the reasoning behind each recommendation.
Possible levels of the product
A family keeps its own curriculum and activities. The tool provides a skill map with prerequisites and clear descriptions of what successful performance looks like. Parents record dated observations, and the tool shows which skills are still developing, which have enough evidence for initial mastery, and which need later review. This level helps prevent gaps from being overlooked without generating lessons.
Using intake results and ongoing observations, the tool recommends a ready skill, a hands-on activity, or a short review. It explains why that choice makes sense. When evidence suggests a prerequisite gap, it recommends a quick check and focused practice before returning to the harder skill. The parent remains free to choose another activity.
AI could create tailored parent instructions, activities, explanations, and practice within an educationally reviewed skill sequence. It could also suggest possible skills demonstrated during everyday activities, such as sorting laundry or counting while cooking. A parent would confirm what the child actually demonstrated before it changed the mastery record. Generated material would need review for accuracy, developmental fit, and teaching quality.
If the earlier levels prove useful and the learning approach is validated, Homeschool Helper could eventually offer complete learning sequences and lessons for families seeking a full homeschool curriculum. That is a long-term possibility, not a claim about the current prototype.
We are starting with ages 3–7 and early math and literacy. The same mastery and prerequisite approach could later extend through high school, although older subjects would require specialist review and much more careful treatment of credits, transcripts, and graduation requirements.
What we hope to learn from testing
The first prototype should demonstrate a connected loop: an intake identifies a likely starting point; an appropriate activity gives the parent something specific to observe; that observation changes the skill record and the next recommendation. We want to learn whether this saves parents time and whether its judgments match what experienced educators see in a child.
Your experience as a preschool teacher would be especially valuable in reviewing the skill order, the signs of mastery, the prerequisite relationships, and the activities themselves. We would welcome candid feedback on where the tool advances a child too soon, holds them back unnecessarily, or asks parents to make observations they cannot reliably make.
